Pre race favorite Enric Mas (Deceuninck-Quick Step) timed his efforts at perfection to win the queen stage of the 3rd Gree Tour of Guangxi ahead of Dani Martinez (EF Education First) and Diego Rosa (Ineos) and take the overall lead.

Chinese participant Wang Meiyin (Bahrain-Merida) attacked for the second time at km 6 and took Ryan Mullen (Trek-Segafredo), Hamish Scheurs (Israel Cycling Academy) and Jay Thompson (Dimension Data) with me but the latter sat up and was back in the pack at km 13. They reached an advantage of 3'50'' was reached at km 60, after which teams Wanty-Groupe Gobert and Deceuninck-Quick Step took over from Bora-Hansgrohe at the head of the peloton. EF Education First was the next team showing their GC ambitions.

Astana also came to the front but as the time difference grew up to 5' with 50km to go, Mullen rode away solo at the front. The Irish time trialist got reeled in 15km before the end.

Rémi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick Step) attacked from a reduced front group in the uphill finish with 3km to go. It was the right move to prepare the terrain for Mas who followed an acceleration by Antwan Tolhoek (Jumbo-Visma) and outsprinted Martinez on the line to claim his first win of the season in his last race for Deceuninck-Quick Step before transferring to Movistar next year.
